Highlights

From the power button to the final draft.

Everything it does, and how to use it.

Wake

Set it as the default assistant. Hold the power button to start.

Works from the lock screen or a pocket. One short vibration, one short tone: it is recording. There is nothing to watch; the screen is just a dim lamp.

Saved

Written in chunks. Never lost.

Every 10 seconds a chunk is written to the phone, with no length limit. After an interruption the next launch stitches it back together and marks it “recovered”.

Rough draft

A rough draft on the device, offline.

A speech-recognition model on the phone produces the draft, Chinese or English detected automatically, no network needed. A failed draft never touches the audio and can be retried.

Final draft

The cloud tidies. It does not write.

That one entry’s audio and draft go through sayit.plutokeating.beer to a language model: punctuation, paragraphs, filler words out, misheard words fixed. No continuing, summarising or opinions. The server keeps none of it.

Type and photo

When speaking is not an option.

What you type is the draft; up to 4 photos with a line of text or a held-down voice note. Same timeline, same final draft.

Look back

Timeline and entry page.

Newest first. On an entry, switch between final draft and rough draft, edit in place and restore, play the audio, export a zip, delete.

Offline

No signal, no problem.

Recording and the rough draft work as usual. Final drafts queue up and are filled in, in order, once the network is back; failures can be retried.

Settings

A few switches, nothing more.

Sound, draft language, Wi-Fi-only final drafts, draft model management, storage usage and export everything.

Account

Record, read back and export without signing in.

Only the final draft needs a PlutoKeating account (id.plutokeating.beer ).

How to use it

Six steps, from install to final draft.

  1. Step 1

    Install

Download the Android version (Android 10 or newer) and install it.

  2. Step 2

    Two first-run steps

Allow the microphone; set SayIt as the default assistant (it takes you to the system setting).

  3. Step 3

Hold the power button and talk

It starts after one short vibration and a short tone. Eyes closed is fine.

  4. Step 4

    Hold again to stop

Two short vibrations and a falling tone. You are back where you were, with one notification left.

  5. Step 5

    Read back, edit, export

Open the app; the entry you just spoke is at the top of the timeline.

  6. Step 6

Sign in once for the final draft

From then on every entry gets its final draft automatically.
